About Us

Established

The Young Fashion Designer UK (YFD UK) competition was established in 2010 by the former Head of Textiles, Karen Wintle, at Kent College Pembury. The need was recognised for GCSE, BTEC and A Level Fashion & Textiles students to have their work recognised and judged by industry professionals in an annual national competition.

Entrepreneurial

As the number of entrants grew the style of the competition has evolved, the team at Kent College, Pembury continue to lead this competition in the South of England covering schools from Oxford and below, including London. The team at Royal Grammar School Worcester is now leading the competition for schools in the Midlands and the North of England. These YFD UK centres will run their own version of the YFD UK competition and have their own specific deadlines and dates for entering. Please visit the YFD Regions section of this website to find out further details.

Innovative

Creativity, progression and the desire to be cutting-edge drives our Fashion and Textiles students. Each YFD UK centre will provide a dynamic, inspirational workshop for finalists whilst judging takes place.

Responsible

Integrity and respect lie at our core; it is inherent in us to act properly and treat all student entrants with respect whilst offering support and advice along the way.

Excellence

YFD UK believes that excellence should be in everything we do. Our judges and guest speakers are carefully selected to bring a wide range of industry experience combined with knowledge and a love for the fashion and textiles industries.
